Pickin trip

Pickings have been slim.  We've been stuck in a winter rut and haven't found much of anything in a long time. Last Sunday we said, "screw it!", hopped in the van and drove to Kentucky.  We found some great stuff last time we were there and figured what better time to go back than the present!

It was nice to get out of town for awhile, albeit the weather was pretty nasty.  Lots of snow, wind, and bitter cold.

We were pretty successful in smalls. We found a bunch of interesting and rare lighters.  We also managed to score some lovely signs.

We got a tin framed 1940s O'Briens paint sign.  It's a big guy too - about 5 ft by 3 ft.

We also got a nos phillips 66 double sided restrooms sign.  We got pictures of the original box it came in but sadly the box wasn't included.

Perhaps our favorite is this early porcelain selz shoes sign - about 4ft long.

We will get some better pics of the signs once it warms up a bit.  In the meantime, here are some blurry shots and some pics of a few other signs we've picked up these past few weeks.

Our trip was rejuvenating and we hope it's a sign of some better picking ahead!

Happy new year!

It's been a wild past few months.  We got very busy over the holidays enjoying time with family and focusing on our etsy businesses.
Picking has been slim, we have mostly been buying lighters and a few signs for ourselves.  We've been spending winter going through our stuff and with hopes to move sometime in the near future (no worries, staying in Chicago), we are downsizing like crazy.
This Wednesday we are taking a whole van load to Shipshewana antique auction.  It'll be our first time consigning after many years of enjoying and buying there.  It starts at 9 am sharp eastern time.  Row 5 spaces 12 and 13.  We are selling everything no reserve (except for one item)  - minimum starting bid is $5.
We are ready to clean house, downsize, and make room for all new and awesome merch!
We hope to see some of you there.  It's a really fun auction with so many killer pieces and is so worth the drive!

First trip to Indiana in months!

What a day!  We've been sick the past week but started feeling better so decided to go on a big trip to indiana.  Two auctions, spanning from 9 am til 10 pm.  Challenge accepted!
Didn't get too much at the first one... a bit more at the second.  It was dark when we were loading out so I didn't get any pictures,  but will update with them tomorrow.  Tons of smalls, a few cool military pieces, lamp, skull, deer mount, and more!  Felt really great to be out on the hunt again.

Old church

We fix our van this week and are mobile again!  We went to a pre pick at a vintage church.  Found a couple of interesting pieces - old altar cloths, some cool lamp shades, memorial vases, and a nifty box of old darts (apparently they used to be champion dart players.)
The church is set to be demoed later this year so once they get to that stage we are going to get some of the architectural pieces - there are a bunch of nifty old exit lights, ceiling fans, light fixtures, etc.

Just a few finds

Sorry for the lack of updates!  We have been doing a lot of shows and haven't done too much picking.  Found two nifty vintage counter top displays, a singer featherweight, and a few odds and ends.
Next weekend we will be setting up at the peotone gas and advertising show.  Saturday it's $50 admission and open from noon til 5, Sunday it's open from 8-3 with $5 admission (or 630 am admission at $20.)
We will be bringing a bunch of our stuff and we are also helping out a friend with an amazing gas/oil collector clearout.  Lots of cool stuff!
