Picking in kempton park

Today was great.  We woke up early and took a 2 hour train ride to a huge flea market in southwest London.  It was one of the most amazing grouping of antiques and cool stuff we've ever seen!  There were probably near 700 vendors.
We bought as much as we could carry.  Some nifty signs, a ton of huge antique skeleton keys, some Fab 1940s lighters, some interesting medical stuff, and an old ronsonol store display.   We spent hours there and hope to go back some day!

London!

We made it to London!  First night involved a lot of jet lag and a couple of pubs.  Got a good solid night of sleep, woke up early and went to the first market on our list!

Markets are strange here - we arrived around 7:30 and only a handful of vendors were there and no one started setting up til 8 am.  We were there til 10:30 and people were still just starting set up!

It was a nifty market, lots of small antiques, clothes, and curiosities.  We picked up a nice deco polo lift arm lighter, a hefty German straight razor, some 1800s skeleton keys, and a nifty hubodometer.

We met a lovely trader who focuses primarily on taxidermy and oddities.  He had a great giant hugs BP gasoline sign in his van which was a very good price but way too big for us to get home.

Afterwards we walked to borough market and ate all the cheese samples we could followed by the worlds best grilled halloumi sandwich.  Its a good thing we walk so much when we are here, otherwise we would gain a good 20 lbs because the food is soooo good here.

We have another market lined up for tomorrow morning then we are taking a trip with the family to an antique centric town in the countryside.  Hope to find some more cool stuff!

Vintage garage!!

Vintage garage was a blast today! It was a nice change of pace to set up only a mere few miles from home. We sold a bunch, met some great people, had a lot of fun!  It was a nice show to do right before our trip overseas.  We will be sure to post when we can! Happy vacation time!

Sunny spring day

It was a beautiful day for a drive and some picking!  We got a couple of neat signs, a whole slew of metal boxes, bull skull, glass wall mount soap dispenser, some glass dixie cup domes, some neat red tiller wheels, and a few other odds and ends.  We also saw some camels on an Amish farm!  Fun stuff.

Coin op was a great show - super windy but we did awesome!  We will be setting up this Sunday at vintage garage in Chicago.  It might rain, but its all inside!  Come visit us before we leave for London!

Wild weekend

What a crazy weekend!  We got home late from our adventures Saturday, got a few winks of sleep and made it out to the season opener at Wolff's flea market rosemont.  We were up in the air on selling, and with lack of sleep and prep, we decided on going to shop! Together!
It was great fun and we got some amazing pieces.  A good handful of lamps (world globe lamp and a killer orange eyeball lamp), a sweet vintage porcelain "no swimming" city of Chicago lamp, an atlas prager beer thermometer (which will end up in our personal collection for awhile), lots of nifty smalls(more thermometers for the personal collection), a nice sick call/last rites box, a super Fab saddle mates cast aluminum spring cow ride (looks like Elsie!) And more!
Today we went back to the school to pick up the rest of our jarred creatures (all have been sold).  We dug around for awhile, Anna's small stature came in handy for the creepy crawl spaces in the basement and we got another haul.  We got some old explosion proof cage lamps, a bunch of beaker stands, more mortar and pestles, and an amazing collection of cell division mitosis models (all sold).
A busy, long weekend.  We are really having fun with our new open schedule. Horray!

Back in school

Holy mother of all awesome and strange sales!  We spent 12 hours in a closed down high school today.  It was almost 90 years old and they didn't get rid of a whole lot of anything.  It was a huge, giant maze of hundreds of rooms spanning over 3 stories.  We didn't get a whole lot of pictures as there was no power and it was dark, also dark outside by the time we started hauling out.  We bought a room filled of wet specimens (mostly bugs, amphibians, and plant life), a few odd pieces of test equipment, about 40 vintage ceramic mortar and pestles in various sizes, and the coolest glass/metal wall mount soap dispenser I've ever seen.

We are going back Monday to pick up the rest of our stuff and hopefully get a few more old chemistry/science related items!  I will also get some better photos of the loot soon.

Beautiful Wednesday finds

Awesome day picking! Ended up with some great stuff.  We got two fabulous antique wood funeral home signs, some advertising clocks, old store displays (forgot to get a picture of the Oscar Mayer rack), tons of advertising pens, a couple cool lamps, some bits, some bobs, and more!  Not sure as of yet where we will be this weekend - we have another intriguing pick penciled in for Saturday and depending on how it goes, we might set up at rosemont on Sunday.  We will update!
