Happy birthday to me

In the past few years, I've had amazing luck finding cool stuff on my birthday, so naturally when scott asked what I wanted to do today, I said, "let's go picking!"  Very happy we did!

We found some strange stuff, lots of cool smalls, keys, car parts, a dummy in a casket, a life sized lady silhouette, a super heavy embossed 1930's stop sign (it has many years of paint on it but the original yellow is underneath - already started the stripping process.)

Also, we are going to be set up and selling at the vintage garage in chicago this Sunday so come by and visit!

Signs!

We came across some great chicago signs this week.  We got an old cta bus stop, a strange hazard sign from the park district, but the best ones have to be these brass ones.  They are escalator up escalator down, solid brass, milk glass, originally would have been hung and lighted.   These were pulled out of the sears roebuck department store from 6 corners in chicago, which dates them to 1938.  We just love these!  We are going to clean them up just a little (remove the rust, fix the cracked glass).  We will post nicer pictures once we get that done.

Old chicago!

Went to a really cool sale today in the far south side of chicago.  Apparently nobody had occupied the building since the early 1960s and it showed.  Tons of amazing early chicago ephemera and a lot of oddball stuff.  Fun dig!

Couple of warehouse finds

Today we went to an interesting warehouse and found a couple cool things.  Got some neat lamps, an oldsmobile training film/record getup from the 1960s, a few bits and bobs, and a whole box of vintage coca cola uniforms from the 1940s. There's a coat, vest, couple of shirts, and trousers!  Pretty cool.
